The new prisons include a central dining room that is managed by the section's prison guards.

The food is cooked by the prisoners, under the supervision of a prison guard cook and is examined on a daily basis.

In most prisons, the food is served to the living rooms and transferred to personal dishes.

In the new prisons (Ofek, Hadarim, Rimonim and Ha'Sharon) the dining room is a social gathering place for the prisoners and enables discipline and order. In most prisons, the food arrives directly into the prisoners' cells and is determined by a regional committee that discusses food related topics in the district and in the unit itself.

The food bases supply many food products / special food / dietary food approved by the IPS – according to a specific medical necessity.

Samples of the food are examined from the food served to the prisoners and prison guards that are kept cold for laboratory examinations if necessary. Proper sanitation conditions are maintained in order to preserve the quality of the food.
