The synagogue is used for religious purposes amongst the prisoners who request to perform these activities.
In all of the criminal imprisonment facilities there are prayer houses, in 32 sections Torah schools are operated for approximately 750 prisoners.
Religious services are provided to people of all religions.
The Torah school is intended for prisoners who wish to study the patterns of life according to the Torah and its laws, and to gain a comprehensive knowledge in the values of Judaism, on the subject of the Torah, the Halacha and Jewish philosophy.
The school maintains a religious atmosphere based on the Torah, an atmosphere that incorporates: language, speech, lifestyle etc. This school is a forming greenhouse for the prisoner that seeks to be rehabilitated and live in a religious society – to communicate with it and connect to it while mentally incorporating himself in the Torah social atmosphere.
The IPS has 4 Torah based sections (the "Leshem" section): Ayalon, Ma'asiahu, Tzalmon and Dekel that are drug free and designed for religious prisoners. These sections include religious activities inside the prison according to the management of the unit's rabbi. These activities include lessons in Judaism, seminars, religious events, personal and group conversations, a Torah library, educational tours and the publication of information sheets on topics relating to Judaism. The participation of the prisoners in the religious activities is not obligatory, and is a major factor is providing an opinion regarding the prisoner for different needs, as well as for providing any compensation that is dependant upon the behavior of the prisoner.
The IPS rabbinate operates the "Shakked" program – which includes a religious rehabilitation program for the prisoner that establishes spiritual goals, when the main goal is advancing in the Jewish manner of life while improving oneself in accordance with the laws of Judaism.
